EMMA — Ethical Multimodal Moral Agent
Thanks for your interest in machine wisdom and machine learning applied to the problem of "smart" building heating, cooling and energy management.
Researchers at Ball State University and the University of California, Santa Barbara, are attempting to design a system which makes ethically appropriate decisions about heating and cooling based on feedback from building occupants such as yourself.
More information about the overall project in which this study is a part can be found at: The Machine Wisdom Project.
We are recruiting faculty, staff, and students from Ball State University for a research study to determine whether an Artificially Intelligent Building Energy Management System can fairly accommodate building user comfort preferences. Participants will install a smartphone app to be used when in the Advanced Technology Building on the BSU campus to rate their current level of comfort with the building’s heating and cooling system. Setting up the app will require you to answer some basic questions about background (e.g., age, gender, race, campus role). There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project, nor are there any direct benefits to you. The data collected with the app is entirely anonymized and will be aggregated across all users to determine the effectiveness of the system. Your responses will not be identifiable in any way. Your participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw from this project at any time. Registration for this study begins with a registration survey or by downloading the app for Android or iOS. By moving forward and providing the requested information, you are agreeing to voluntarily participate in our study.
This study is being conducted by Prof. David Hua, who can be reached at 285-5659 if you have any questions.
